Many Americans are concerned about how their lives will be impacted with the upcoming inauguration on January 20th. Regardless of your political leaning, the upcoming administration will broadly affect health insurance, general health care, and education. This doesn’t even include the effects on queer and trans individuals, people who have immigrated to the U.S. and their loved ones, and those who require gender-specific healthcare.
With all of this likely in the near future, many people are experiencing higher levels of stress, fear, and uncertainty. It’s hard to feel like we have any control at all. Thankfully, that isn't the case.
Each and every person in this world has their own sphere of control. Within it: what you can currently control. And everything outside it: what you can’t currently control.
OUTSIDE Our Spheres of Control
The immediate upcoming effects of the election are taking shape. This is something that is happening.
INSIDE Our Spheres of Control
Audre Lorde is quoted as writing “Caring for myself is not self-indulgence, it is self-preservation, and that is an act of political warfare”. Keeping our eyes on taking care of ourselves, our personal values, and our community are going to be the things that allow people to weather this.
Many wish to also participate in some kind of community activism, but may not know where to start. Here is a short blog post with options available to you to participate at the local level that do not involve a financial commitment.
If we here at Compassionate Healing can support you, please do not hesitate to reach out.
